 On Sunday 1st October we welcome OUTLIER for our third gig in the Gregson Gig Series.

OUTLIER are a fresh Jazz Fusion, Soul & Blues trio from the North West of England. Formed in the latter months of 2021, OUTLIER endeavour to not only bring the best in live performance, but strive to breathe new life into the North West music scene.

Borne out of a love of Jazz & Soul music, coupled with a frustration of hearing the same contemporary pop, OUTLIER are not run-of-the-mill musicians… with live dates spanning across Lancashire, Yorkshire & Cumbria, expect to hear a mix of classic Jazz standards, reworked Blues & Soul, all coupled with a Fusion twist.

Lancaster Jazz Jam Friday 25th August

The Jazz Jam is part of Lancaster Jazz Scene. The next Jam takes place on Friday 29th September from 19:30 at the Printroom Cafe Bar located in the historic Storey Building on Meeting House Lane near Lancaster Castle.  Here's more info;

Lancaster Jazz Jam was established in 2017, emerging out of the Orbit Jazz Workshop at Lancaster Community Music Centre. Our aim is to present an inclusive jam session that allows players of all abilities to have an opportunity to play, gain confidence, learn about jazz music, develop performance skills and hear other musicians. At the jam we have a selection of tunes/standards to play and there is music available for C, Bb, Eb and Bass. You can choose which tunes you wish to play on and sign up to be part of the band when those tunes are called. The emphasis is on having fun, supporting each other and enjoying the music. Gregson Gig Series #2: Jilly Jarman & Geoff Bartholomew post-gig post

 

On Saturday we were treated to a memorable and intimate performance from Jilly Jarman and Geoff Bartholomew

On piano, vocals and flute, Jilly delivered joyous melodies and heartfelt reflections drawing on her original compositions and inspiration from beloved artists.

Geoff's trumpet prowess shone with technically complex rhythmic pieces and contemplative lyrical passages. Subtly-handled electronics lent further textures to the performance.

The pair complemented each other beautifully, resulting in a varied and multi-layered set and some very special moments indeed. We didn't want it to end!

For our second presentation in the Gregson Gig Series we welcome Jilly Jarman & Geoff Bartholomew. 

 

Jilly and Geoff are jazz composers and improvisers based in Penrith. They will be playing a mix of their own compositions and arrangements, utilising voice, trumpet, keyboards, flute and electronics. You can hear some of their collaborations on jillyjarman.co.uk  

As well as being a musician, composer and mentor, Jilly is founder and Creative Director of Bluejam Arts, a dynamic hub for innovative community music and arts in North Cumbria and beyond. 

Geoff is a trumpet player, composer and teacher who has studied jazz with contemporary players such as Nikki Iles and Chris Batchelor.  

This will be a great opportunity to experience innovative improvised music and inventive compositions in the intimate setting of the Olive Bar at The Gregson.
